August — Elembiuos and the Busgosu
The hills and their creatures remind us that abundance should be shared and protected.
August brings long, often warm days, although rain can return to Asturias even in summer. Sea breezes, valley weather and mountain air make for different summers. In the hills, the season ripens and autumn slowly draws nearer.
The month: enjoy the hills without taking them away
Forests offer shade and paths invite us to walk. Fruits and plants belong to delicate cycles: picking them without knowing what they are or leaving litter can damage a place. Respecting trails, closures and local notices is a simple way to care for the landscape we share.
The voice of the forest: the Busgosu
The Busgosu is a character in Asturian legends associated with the hills. Stories do not always describe it in the same way; it changes with the voice telling them. In this imagined scene, someone walking among the trees remembers that the forest has its own rules and not everything is there for people to take. The character gives shape to that caution without being a literal explanation of nature.
Elembiuos and the deer
Elembiuos is a name in the Coligny calendar, a Gaulish inscription found in France. Its meaning is uncertain, and a connection with the deer has been proposed without certainty. It has not been shown to correspond to August or to have a historical connection with the Busgosu. The link here is poetic.
